List of series 2023

Jury of the competition sections

Each year, our program brings a selection of the best series from Central and Eastern Europe and a few selections from the rest of the continent. Viewers can expect Scandinavian complex dramas about current social issues, genre entertainment and comedies from unexpected environments about unexpected topics. We select only the most interesting series from all over Europe and now and then from elsewhere.

Main Competition:The best of Central and Eastern Europe. Innovative practices, social overlap, complex characters. No copying of famous models, the narrators of the series selected by us are authentic and have their own style.

Focus: Finland:Finnish series are always a bit different from all the others. That is why we have loved them at Serial Killer since the founding of the festival. This applies to absurd comedies, which we understand well in the Czech Republic, suspenseful crime dramas that do not hide anything, and also their well-crafted genre titles. This year we also focused on Finnish series for young audience.

International Panorama:Quality from all corners of the world. In this programme section, you will find a mix of genres and topics that have only one thing in common: you will not find a plain one amongst them.

Young and Restless:Ever since the global audience discovered Stranger Things, Euphoria and Sex Education, Europe has been at a great advantage. The biggest hits for young people are now watched by absolutely everyone, and the European ones have a great tradition. Our selection this year features iconic new series from the North and fresh blood from the South.

Special Screening:In collaboration with the Film and Architecture Festival, we present The Architect, a great Norwegian series about the housing crisis, dystopian future and architects who are changing the world. In collaboration with Czech Television, we present a great remake of the Belgian series of the same name, Sense of Tumour, which you had the chance to see at Serial Killer in 2021. We will also be screening French thriller about a great scam called Of Money and Blood, the first episode of which you will see a few weeks before its premiere on CANAL+.

Web Series Competition:The best web series from Central and Eastern Europe. A hotbed of young talents and unexpected gems. Web Series Competition will showcase several short series competing for the Best Webseries of CEE.

Best of Web Series:This year showcase will be a commented overview of the web series landscape today. Joel Bassaget, partner researcher at University of Wollongong and Head of the Web Series World Cup will highlight the trends, evolutions and perspectives of the web series phenomenon and its situation in 2022.
