Chris is twenty-two years old and grew up on a housing estate in Antwerp. He is Belgian, but people look at him differently from other young men. When he runs two steps behind his blonde girlfriend to catch the bus, everyone thinks he is stealing her purse. After his mother loses her job and he has to start contributing to the family’s budget, his dream of being an actor is in danger of disappearing, because all his time is filled with “real” work. Or he will be drawn to the most familiar stereotype the locals have for dark boys on the estate – the life of the local gangster. This great Belgian comedy with a social subtext takes inspiration from arcade video games. It tells without exaggeration what it is like to be young and unprivileged in Europe, and once again confirms that Belgium is one of Europe’s most interesting series producers.
