Gerta Schnirch is a two-part television drama based on the novel by Kateřina Tučková, directed by Tomáš Mašín and co-produced by Czech TV and Negativ. The title tells the story of a young girl from a German-Czech family in Brno whose life was shattered by WW2 and the atrocities that followed.
Gerta Schnirch lived a careless life before the war, but after her Czech mother passed away and her German father joined the Nazis, everything turned upside down. When the war ended, Gerta faced expulsion from Czechoslovakia along with all ethnic Germans. She eventually survived “the Death March”, but carried with her a dark secret she dared not speak about.
Gerta Schnirch is a story of human destiny destroyed by history. A story of guilt, revenge and forgiveness.
