The rise of the Series at the centre of our culture hasn’t just altered daily screen consumption habits — it’s brought new and radical ways of thinking about screen storytelling and structures for production, collaboration, innovation, new talent, and the democratisation of our screens.
Vinca Wiedemann and Ben Gibson are experienced producers and educationalists whose careers have been focussed on new talent and new ideas. Wiedemann, former director of the Danish Film School has developed well-known films and series and created the highly controversial Danish Screen. Ben Gibson, former director of The London Film School and the Berlin DFFB, hosts of the Serial Eyes programme, has produced films by Terence Davies, Derek Jarman and others, and worked as a dramaturg. In this conversation they will discuss the new demands of the series script, the impact of show running on production and the new environment for all newcomers to screen work.
