The seventeen-year-old Abdi has family originally from Somalia, but lives the life of a patriot in the Oslo housing estate of Stovner. He has his own group of friends, a girl he likes, brothers and a mother who watches his lifestyle with concern about whether her son is growing up to be a good Muslim. One of the series, which follows the huge success of the Norwegian Skam series, names each season after the age of its main character, and its episodes count down the days until Abdi, and in later seasons the eighteen-year-old Emrah, the sixteen-year-old Iba and the nineteen-year-old Aisha, have their lives changed. The daily lives of young Norwegians whose families have immigrated to the country are described with great empathy, and thanks to the documentary-style direction, cinematography and naturalistic performances we feel as if we are watching the characters in real life.
