“You know, for the first 7 years of my life I didn’t care about any institution, let alone school. I fed and clothed myself, and I chose what I was going to do that day. Kind of like Mowgli, only with a mullet haircut, or like the baby from Trainspotting, had it survived,” says Alma, a 30-ish woman with no job experience or other marketable skills, in the pilot episode of a new British comedy series. She has just been dumped by her rent-paying boyfriend and she will now have to rethink her life from the ground up. British comedian Sophie Willan, who grew up in an orphanage, capitalises on her own life experiences, and along with the equally great rest of the cast shows a British family from a slightly different angle than we are used to. We present the 30-minute pilot episode. The series itself will premiere in the UK in September.
