Blackout

Origin and Year: Belgium, 2020 Director: Joël Vanhoebrouck
Runnning time: 2 x 42 min

A catastrophic thriller inspired by real events follows the Belgian Prime Minister, who is experiencing a fundamental dilemma. Her daughter was abducted and at the same time electricity went out throughout the country after an attack on a local nuclear power plant. If she doesn’t follow the kidnappers’ instructions, her daughter will die. Can she leave the whole country at the mercy of the chaos caused by the blackout? The Belgian series combines the topic of dependence on nuclear energy with the best of the thriller genre. The whole country is drowning in darkness, and the series shows the human dependence on modern technologies in almost real time, without which it is practically impossible to function in today’s world.

We present the series as a tasting of the next year’s festival, which will focus on contemporary Belgian series production.
