Ensuring that Czech culture does not dissolve in the great German sea is no easy task, and the Czech revivalists are very busy. Meanwhile, Zdeňka Havlíčková, daughter of the greatest Czech journalist, that is the late Karel Havlíček Borovský, spends every afternoon in detention. At least until the gentlemen think of making Zdeňka the model of the ideal Czech woman. But what good is history, geography or politics to women in the kitchen? According to the revivalists, it is useless, the esteemed icons do not even count on Zdeňka saying something unexpected in her new role. The first Czech original series produced by CANAL+ is a distinctive satirical comedy set in a visually sophisticated, tightly woven fictional world. It may remind us of the playful American title Dickinson, about the writer Emily Dickinson, but tonally we are in a subtle domestic irony. It is the second Czech series, after Božena, to respond to the trend of “strong female characters” by probing the Czech history rich in distinctive and interesting female personalities.
