Sixteen-year-old Helga wants to kill herself. She has recently moved with her mother to a town where she knows no one, shortly after her best friend died in a tragic accident. Helga wants to die too, but it is not that simple. She could even have a TikTok channel about the different ways to kill herself. The Danish teen comedy drama treats one of the most serious contemporary issues, youth mental health. It tells the inverted story of a suicide plan that gradually starts to be pushed out of a nihilistic teenager’s life by other, seemingly quite ordinary themes – friendship, confidence and a sense of acceptance. The series’ ironic distance, the Nordic sophistication and the confidence with which it builds an original story on familiar foundations are complemented by great performances of the actors.
