In 2017, a Danish inventor and businessman murdered Swedish journalist Kim Wall aboard his submarine and later claimed her death was an accident. In this six-part miniseries, one of the most talented contemporary Nordic filmmakers, Tobias Lindholm (A War, The Hunt, Another Round, Mindhunter), has managed to completely reframe the event. Foregoing the media narrative about an eccentric businessman who killed a woman, he chose to tell the story of investigator Jens Møller’s dogged efforts to secure evidence against the killer, prove the truth and pay tribute to the young victim and her family. The Investigation depicts the extraordinary efforts of the diving unit that searched the seabed for weeks, as well as his friendship with Kim Wall’s parents. Lindholm’s story completely changes the narrative of an event that could have ended up merely as another piece of tabloid news and showcases how a developed society copes with a tragedy.
