Let’s Talk About It: Future of European Series, Single Digital Market, Public Service Broadcasting under Threat

How does the Flemish public broadcaster differ from its Czech counterpart and where can they find the common ground? What are Czech Television’s ambitions and plans for the future and what can these broadcasters learn from each other? How can the situation regarding the export of Belgian and Czech TV drama be described? Is it even possible for the public broadcaster to compete with private VOD platforms such as Netflix or Amazon Prime? And is it really the budget that indicates the quality of series or miniseries?

These are some of the questions discussed by Czech Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek, CEO of the Flemish public broadcaster VRT Frederik Delaplace, CEO of the Czech public broadcaster Czech Television Petr Dvořák and Belgian producer from the company jonnydepony Helen Perquy. Unfortunately, Belgian Minister for Youth, Media and Brussels Benjamin Dalle could not attend the panel in person after all but managed to send his greetings online where he spoke about successes of Belgian TV drama as well as about challenges television production had to face during the world pandemic.
