As broadcast and distribution models change, so do the formats of series episodes and the way they are written.
From the long-running seasons of the American terrestrial networks to the shorter-running series favoured by European broadcasters, from the edgier storytelling introduced by HBO that became a cable and international standard, to the limited event series introduced with streamers like Netflix, each technology has formats specifically tailored to their broadcast models that directly impact the narrative structure of episodes and series.
With the arrival of FAST and AVOD channels, those narrative models will change yet again, evolving into a hybrid of the fiction structures that came before. Understanding what these new models are and the way they are written is one of the keys to creating series that can succeed and thrive in this new broadcasting landscape.
This talk is about how to make that happen.
